Thanatar complete

It was not long between WIP shots and getting the model finished. Here are some pictures of the finalised monster.

The marine is in a couple of photos just for scale comparison in an attempt to try and bring home how substantial this guy is. The model was fantastic to work with, there is so much detail and while there are still a couple of minor bits to get sorted he is more or less complete.

Thanatar WIP

Currently working on the mechanicum forces adding in to my apocalypse force and I thought I would share the WIP pictures of the mighty Thanatar, this model is one of the main reason I want to collect Mechanicum as I feel forge world knocked it out of the park. Having worked on it I am now even considering adding another one or two to my army, I know that would not be optimal but the model is awesome and has been a joy to paint plus it is going to be perfect as a centrepiece for the army until such a time as I get a knight.

Need to work on the left arm with it's scary looking mauler bolt cannon with belt feed but this is in my opinion really starting to come together and it is nicely massive standing at nearly the height of a drop pod and the long ranged firepower in theory should be extremely useful in a battle.

The Legion musters

So not long now until my friends and I head up to warhammer world for our apocalypse battle and I have been working on getting things completed (probably not working hard enough) but I am trying to get everything done in time.
I have just completed sorting out the terror marines and my tactical squad (baring a vexila) and figured I should share some pictures of the massing warriors.

So there is a solid core of infantry to accompany the assault marines in to battle, I now have 50 rank and file marines ready for battle, half a company ready to bring ruin to whomever they decide to hunt.

War is coming and We come for you!

Castellax WIP

Following on from yesterday's post where I teased the first view of part of the castellax I have been working hard progressing the model and it is now getting close to completion.

So there we go, a bit more cabling to connect the power plant to the darkfire cannon and some armour plating on the arms with bolters or flamers attached but it should really be finished in reasonably short order.
I have also now received delivery of the air brush paints I had run out of so i am now positioned to get back to work on the tech thralls so the big guys are going to take something of a back seat for the time being. On the plus side it looks like I am going to have the whole weekend to work on models so assuming everything goes to plan I should be able to not only complete another 10 tech thralls but also make some progress on the remaining night lords for the army.

Archmagos

Following on from getting the abeyant tabletop ready I have now gotten the archmagos himself in to the same condition and here he is...

So there he is aboard the mighty abeyant but I have set him up so he can easily be fielded away from this arcane device and here are some shots of him seperate from the standard mode of transportation.

And finally I am working on a Castellax as I believe i may have mentioned in a previous post, here is a very WIP shot of the mighty robot, I am trying out a metallic red, I have some concerns it is a bit too pink but i really like the idea of the armour panels on a massive war machine remaining metallic despite being coloured in memory of mars.
Under more natural lighting I do not think it looks quite that garishly pink but I may have to reconsider the armour plates depending on how it looks when it is a bit further along.

Abeyant

So continuing from yesterday's post I have been making more progress on the archmagos, while he is still a little way from completion I definitely feel he is moving in the right direction.
As I have mentioned before I adore this model as I feel there are so many wonderful little touches on it, I love the inscribred text and the plentiful array of skulls. I still need to pick out all of the controls in a bit more detail as well as polishing off the archmagos himself and adding all of the additional pieces just to round out the model but I think it is definitely starting to look the part.

So that's the dais of the abeyant which I think is looking good, tyhe central disc is magnetised so it can be removed allowing the archmagos to be used on foot when he abeyant is undergoing repair work. I still have to sort out the additional tendrils for movement as well as the four cyber-occularis but since I am not currently planning on utilising the occularis for the time being I am happy to leave them off the build.

And now here are a couple of shots of the abeyant along side the tech thralls I have already completed to give a currently complete mechanicum army. Still a long way to go with another 20 tech thralls, a couple of castellax, three thallax, three myrmidon destroyers and a Thanatar to be added to the force in the coming weeks assuming all goes according to plan.

Lord of Mars

I have been making progress with the tech thralls having now completed 20 of them, I had intended to continue working on them but then found out I was out of one of the airbrush paints I have been using.
I have placed an order for some replacement stock but while I wait for that to arrive I decided to get started on the archmagos prime for the mechanicum. I have to admit now i have really started to study the model as I have started to paint it I am spotting more and more beautiful little touches of art in the model, the walking cane for the archmagos, the various additional set's of hands manipulating devices and such like. Forge world really do make some of the most amazingly detailed models which it is a pleasure to work with even if on occassion I definitely feel I am not skilled enough to do them justice.

So just a few shots of some of the pieces of the model but hopefully it gives an idea of the beauty of the model and the intentions I have for the painting of the model, This will definitely serve as an excellent centrepiece for the army until such a time as the Thanatar is completed which will completely over shadow this guy. Eventually my plan is to complete the baic mechanicum army list and then expand them with one of the new Imperial Knight Warden's because they look awesome and you have to love something with a power fist that big but I am convinced this guy is always going to have to special place in my heart, you cannot help but feel for a guy with that many tendrils and arms.
