Apocalypse

So a couple of weeks ago my gaming group got together and staged an apocalypse battle. It was not as successful as we had hoped but it was still a great chance to see a ton of cool models on the table top.

So there is a load of images of the models we brought, there was a table of excellently painted eldar and necrons but when I was grabbing pictures my view of the table they were on was blocked and I forgot to get back to them - sorry.

The initial day of the battle (we fought over three days) consisted of a couple of grey knights, eldar, nercons, some chaos space marines, night lords, iron warriors and mechanicum facing off against blood angels, imperial fists, orks, dark eldar, chaos daemons and fulgrim.
The main issue we faced on day one was the combination of my heresy era forces and the eldar/necrons had insane shooting and they utterly brutalised the opposing forces as we got first turn, seeing Angg'arath, 8 venoms, half a dozen rhinos/razorbacks, 30 flesh hounds and the like getting obliterated before they have a chance to do anything was simply too much.
We tried to compensate for it by allowing our opponents to bring on all of their turn two and three reserves in on turn one but it was not enough, they could not inflict comparable damage with their shooting and we were set up to steam roller them.

We then recut the armies, toned down the scale a bit and over the next couple of days tried again, this time I teamed up with all of the marines and the battle was a bit closer but again was one sided this time against me but hey who cares, I did manage to achieve the almost unthinkable in dropping a wraithknight, turns out when you hit it with both arm weapons on a reaver and your shots do not scatter rediculously.
While not as satisfying as had been hoped it was still a good weekend and an excellent chance to get some use out of models we do not often get to play with.

As some fallout from this I have decided to direct my force expansion somewhat and focus on getting more mobility and a couple more apocalypse options, with this in mind I either now have or have put on order the following....
1 dreadclaw drop pod (can be taken as a lord of war in the mechanicum to drop in some irradation engine myrmidon destructors for savage potential damage)
2 more triaros armoured conveyors, the mechanicum army is just far too static and desperately needed more transportation options
2 apothecaries to boost my iron warrior tactical squads
a couple of the limited edition forge world praetors released in GW stores which I am aiming to use as librarians since my army desperately need some more psychic support
9 ursarax for a mobile assault element
1 malcador infernus, I have wanted this tank for ages as it is savage and I love the look, I even already have the slot in one of my KR multicase trays for if I ever got round to getting one
20 solar auxilia lasrifle dudes, I figure the best way to use the malcador is as part of an allied detachment instead of having it take up a lord of war slot which could be used to bring my knight warden within a mechanicum contingent and more bodies are always nice.

Intending to paint the solar auxilia up in the forge world Xana colours, I can use that as a test before I starting adding Xana elements to the mechanicum which I feel I am going to have to do since I have Scoria as the overall commander of the mechanicum and he according to his background (being a named special character) comes from Xana.
